-45 min.
Sleeping Antlers is a visual and musical performance inspired by the world of fairy tales. It takes an original look at how beings can be so different and it touches upon individual uniqueness and self-construction. Sleeping Antlers tells the story of a child faced with obstacles who makes an antler forest lying dormant inside him grow...
In this show, there is also Julie Desrosiers’ world. She is a contemporary puppeteer with a visual arts and stage design background and he recently received the Victor-Martyn-Lynch-Staunton award from the Canada Council for the Arts for her outstanding work. She tells her tales through materials, puppets, movement… in a singular aesthetic replete with forceful and poetic images. Cédric Dind-Lavoie’s music accompanies this performance with several songs, among which an original lullaby by Stéphane Lafleur (of the Avec pas d’casque band).
... Stories always start with a birth... the birth of someone... or something... Sometimes, in stories, there are pitfalls. And sometimes... small pitfalls turn into big ones. But stories, they tend to take root, to grow... that’s life !
In this story, a man and a woman with antlers on their heads have a child. But the child has not inherited their antlers! The concerned parents invite a slew of experts over to fix the problem. One doctor, a sort of witch and a clan of good fairies do their utmost so that the child can be like his parents, like he ought to be. Rebellion, reflection and action take him on a journey of self-construction to include everything he wants, revealing his own beauty while taming the antlers in his heart, which grow every which way...
